Heliskiing and Catskiing in Oceania

When we think about Oceania, the first images that come to mind are the sandy beaches of the Fidji islands or the great bareer reef of Astralia. But there is some heli-skiing to be found in the south island of New Zealand in the area of Queenstown / Wanaka.

I remember my first trip there. I was having a coffee on Bondi beach near Sydney, and I read in the local newspaper that there was a storm and a lot of snow to expect in the next few days in NZ.\nI called a NZ guide that I know in Canada, got some local contacts and tips and headed to Wanaka.

The Southern Alps run the length of the South island but the Heliski operators are mostly in the southern tip of the island where you get a few ski resorts and the city of Queenstown, the local center for outdoor activities and adventure sports.\n\nOne point to notice is that the heliski operators there propose day trips. It is therefore a good option to get a first experience and you don’t need to invest in a large amount of time or money for the experience of Heli- skiing.
